Loren Hjelle — New London, MN

. Loren is from the Spicer-New London Area. Over 30 years ago Loren began a job as a welding instructor at Ridgewater College in Wilmar, MN (77’-78’). Shortly thereafter he also began making spears. Loren claims “the first spears were a little rough and not as fancy as they are today.” But with each spear they progressed more and more towards the beautiful works of art you see today. Loren never kept an exact count of how many spears he made, but after several years of making them someone suggested that he should begin numbering them. By his best estimate, at that point, he had made 30-50 spears, but to make things simple he started numbering his spears at 100. Currently he just stamped his most recent spear #353!! Loren’s spears are sought after all across the North American continent to the far reaches of Ontario and recently he got an order from Nova Scotia. Sturgeon spears to pike spears and everything in between!
