Ryan Ebert — Fort Atkinson, WI
Ryan is a self employed graphic design, photographer and marketing guru from Fort Atkinson, WI. Ryan has been involved in various forms of art his whole life. Having earned his degree in Graphic Design and spent eleven years as an Art Director for an agriculture publishing company. So it was a natural fit for him to take to the art of carving decoys in 2012. His interest for carving stemmed from spearing over decoys on remote lakes in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with his friend and fellow carver, Mike Kitt and his son, Josh. Ryan has been mostly self taught in the art of decoy carving. This has attributed to him developing a unique style that is all his own, often adding things like deer antlers to his fish. Ryan's work has really taken hold in the sturgeon spearing world over the last several years. Fun fact: The State of Wisconsin sells 13,000 Sturgeon spearing licenses a year. Ryan attests that the excitement for the opening day of spearing for Sturgeon is as much or greater than deer season! Ryan also speared his personal best pike over one of his own decoys, measuring in at 40.25 inches! In Feb. 2020 during the Wisconsin sturgeon spearing season he speared an almost 60”, 55lb lake sturgeon that came in to one of his folk art decoys. Ryan has also won multiple ribbons and categories at the Gathering in Perham!
His work has been featured on MeatEater’s BENT podcast, The Wisconsin Sportsman podcast, and Friday Night Pikes.
